Octobers Meeting

 MEETINGS

October 4th, 12 noon-2:30p.m.
At the Darien Police Station
Found Object Jewelry - presented by Mary Warner
For many of us collage artists, the FOUND OBJECT is THE BEST. So let's put some of those found objects on jewelry.
Mary will be bringing supplies (such as game pieces, charms,  wire, rings, beads) ready for each to make several "found object charms."
Bring your own chain with larger links to hang them on OR if you'd like, for a small fee, she'll have the chain and clasps to finish  a necklace or bracelet with your handmade charms.
For supplies, bring if you have them
     a round nose pliers
     a flat nose plier
     a wire cutter
(Mary has a few extras  of these pliers and we can share if we need to)
Your own, or buy from Mary, jewelry chain with larger links on which to attach your charms
Any of your own found objects and decorative beads you'd like to use.
Mary will  be bringing gold, 24 gauge wire, pins and jump rings.
Note: If you've never done this kind of work, you might like to check out one of the many
tutorials on the basics of jewelry making. To actually make a necklace like the one shown here
will take hours to make, but this will give us a start in knowing how to prepare the found object charms.

August Meeting and More~

MEETINGS
August 2 Due to the virus travel restrictions and concerns, Barrie Mason will not be able to come to the Chicago area to give her "No touch Parfait Dying" Workshop. Hopefully she will be able to come in August 2021 to give her workshop.
Instead we will have an open-air work-day. Each participant should bring whatever she wants to work on while we are together for a work day.
In addition Mary Warner has offered to teach some simple book-making techniques in the morning. It is a workshop of various fairly simple bookmaking ideas in which she will supply all of the paper and cover material. For those who want to make books bring scissors, a cutting mat or tray-like surface, a couple of glue sticks, some wax paper to keep the surface clean as one works, perhaps a ruler and pencil. (Make 1 of them, 2, or all 3... during the morning. Bring embellishments if you want to decorate them in the afternoon)  Participants who want to make these small books can pay Mary Warner $5 for book-making supplies. See the photo below for a sampling of the types of non-stitch books that you can make.
We will have our MCS Meeting at Noon while we have lunch.
Advance registration will be necessary: Due to the need for social distancing we can only have 24 participants at our meeting (2 people per picnic table)

Parfait Dying is Barrie's favorite introduction to the wonders of dying fabric. In this workshop we will dye four squares of fabric in one container building up colors and amazing designs. For the designs we will be using various shibori and other resist techniques. For the color we will be using Procion MX dye that produces vibrant and fade resistant colors. Come see how fabric dying can add to your collage stash.
Fabric and dye will be supplied for a $6 materials fee.
Participants should bring:
· Plastic tablecloth for your work area.  A large trash bag cut open would work
