August Meeting-Workshop

MEETINGS
August 5th   9 a.m.-2:30 p.m.

Denise Laurin Donatelle, artist and instructor at Waubansee Community College will present a workshop on hand-made Japanese paper scrolls.

In the morning participants will have time to create an original 7.5” x 4.5” work of art using stamps, images, paper, a drawing, or Chinese ink painting techniques, (ink techniques will be demonstrated). This art should be lightweight paper under 80lb. Bring any materials you need to create the artwork. Prior to the workshop, you can make sketches. We will have about 1.5 hours to work up the design of the artwork. You have complete artistic control over what you would like to do!This art piece is the image around which the 16" scroll proportions are based.

In the afternoon the Japanese scroll (kakemono) will be created using traditional scroll-making techniques. Denise will demonstrate Chinese or Japanese ink painting techniques which may be added to the scroll. Denise will provide proper adhesive, Washi paper (all other papers will be glued to this paper), wooden dowels and informative step-by-step hand-outs.
See photo of sample scroll attached.

Materials List:
Participants should bring thin ribbon for hanging the scroll, a variety of four-six different colored and/or patterned papers.
