Fall Meetings, Exhibits, Retreats and so much more

Hi MCS Members,

Mother Nature smiled upon us with a sunny summer day that was not too hot for our August meeting held in Laura Lein-Svencner's backyard.  Thanks Laura for all the prep work and for hosting MCS.   Many thanks to Barrie Mason who shared her knowledge of Parfait Dying.  It was truly magical when we pulled our fabrics out of the vessels.   There were so many different designs and colors, yet we all had the same basic colors and tools to play with.   Barrie's teaching abilities really made us all look like pros.

The deadline is almost here for our exhibit at Indian Prairie Library.  Our Exhibit Committee works hard to find venues for displaying our work.  You are incredible artists, please participate so others can see and admire your amazing abilities.  You just have to provide the basic information by September 15th, the work doesn't have to be delivered until October 1st.  Let's not disappoint so that we will be invited back.

Also be sure to visit the Silent Auction at Nature's Best Cafe in September.  Details below.

Lucky us, we get to make a Rainbow Star Book at our next meeting on September 12th..  Mary Warner has put packets together for us so we just have to show up with a minimum of preparation.  The materials needed are listed below.

I am so looking forward to the MCS Retreat in October.  If you can get away, come join us for days of carefree art!  Details are listed below.

Take care,

Nancy Castner, President

Laura Lein-Svencner has a collage and coptic stitch journal making workshop.

September 11th and 12th, 9:30am-4:00pm

Limited to 8 adult students

This 2-Day workshop will start with creating a large piece of paper with fun mixed media techniques on its surface. The large sheet of paper will then be used for the covers of your Coptic stitch books. We will learn about the different parts of the journal, folding papers to create signatures and then stitching them all together for our own wonderful handmade journal. These journals can be used for a wide assortment of drawing mediums like colored pencil, markers, pens, and graphite pencils. And for Morning Pages if you're an avid journal writer. Students will be able to make a larger journal and a smaller one. This technique of bookbinding can be adapted to different sizes and more absorbent papers for wetter mixed media.

Instructor will provide
Cut book board to size, paper for inside of journals, book thread and needles, drawing paper, magazines, sandpaper and use of stamping products, plus an instructional packet.
