a time to let your creativity flow. Roll with the many artistic thoughts

MEETINGS
June 7th Stay at home project! Keeping us safe one more month.
("Altered Canvas for
Collage" with Joan Lucht will be rescheduled for next March.)
Create an impermanent
collage of natural materials in the style of Andy Goldworthy. This can be done in your yard, a nearby park
or on a substrate of your choice in your house. Photograph it and send it
with the title to joan.of.art33@gmail.com with Andy
and Your Name in subject line. Photos will be shared with
participants. If there is enough interest we may incorporate photos into a
hand-made book in a workshop next season.
To learn about Andy Goldsworthy you
can view the attached Power Point presentation (this short program was
created for a 5th grade class) on the artist or Google images of his work.
There are three documentaries on Amazon Prime: Rivers and Tides (Free), Leaning
into the Wind ($3.99) and Stone Aches ($1.99).
You may be able to find them on other streaming programs or in your library if
they have opened or have a pick-up program.
This

August 2nd - No touch Parfait Dying with Social Distancing Barrie Mason, presenter
August 2nd - No touch Parfait Dying with Social Distancing Barrie Mason, presenter
Parfait Dying is Barrie's favorite
introduction to the wonders of dying fabric. In this workshop we will dye
four squares of fabric in one container building up colors and amazing
designs. For the designs we will be using various shibori and other
resist techniques. For the color we will be using Procion MX dye that
produces vibrant and fade resistant colors. Come see how fabric dying can
add to your collage stash.
We will be outdoors and you will
each have your private workspace. Fabric and dye will be supplied for a
$6 materials fee. Advance registration needed.
Participants should bring:
· Plastic tablecloth for your work area. A large trash
bag cut open would work
· Folding chair & TV tray table
· Apron & gloves for dye work
· 1 gallon zip-lock bag + 4 quart zip-lock bags
· paper towels
· A tall dye container that holds at least 3 cups of
water. I use a cylinder shaped vase found at a thrift store. Tall
and narrow is better than short and fat
· Optional – rubber bands, string, marbles,
scissors, needle, strong thread (the instructor will bring some too)

MCS RETREAT
Sadly our September 2020 retreat has
been cancelled due to Covid-19.
Camp Alexander Mack has been
reserved for Oct. 6 - 10, 2021, with our usual accommodations
in Sarah Major, on the lake. Please mark your calendars!
MCS EXHIBITS
A Compendium of
Curiosities
Erin Cortilet from the Tinley Park Park
District thinks that there is a strong possibility that we will be able to have
a REAL exhibit in the gallery in August. (if we are in stage 4 of recovery)
Either way she is willing to put together a virtual exhibit for us.
In addition
to submtitting a prospectus (available in July
Newsflash) all MCS members are invited to submit 2-3 pieces to her via
email with any size jpeg image.

Sheltering in Place for Woodridge Library - December
Hopefully you have been
inspired during your time of sheltering!
MEMBERS
Cherylyn Gnadt sold "Telling the
Bees: A delicate deconstruction" on display in MCS show Ex Libris. The
collector works at the Indian Prairie Public Library and said she
looked forward to seeing the piece when she was at work. Then it was gone, so
she contacted Cherylyn through her website.
The buyer had
twins and one had major complications and only survived a year. Since then the
family has been collecting "bee" things to honor their daughter
"Beatrix". The piece will be donated back to the library
in their daughter's name.
Cherylyn wanted to
share this story because as artists we might second guess finishing a piece,
showing a piece or creating all together, but you never know when a connection
happens and what your work might mean to someone.
