Midwest Collage Society-Chicago Cultural Center-Remnants & Remembrances

"Remnants and Remembrances" is up at the Renaissance Court Gallery at the Chicago Cultural Center!

Please thank Tania Blanco and Margaret Swedzikowski, Margi Hafer and Andrea Fox, Nancy Savaiano Rosenberg and Elaine Rath who braved the traffic and brought carloads of art into the alley and loading dock.  We also had energetic help (arranging, measuring, hammering) from them and the  following people: Lezlie Lenz, Sandie Bacon, Georgia Velisaris,  Jerri Reimann and me (Nancy Staszak).  It was a long day, but worth it----the show looks GREAT!

Our show officially opens tomorrow Augusts 25th, and runs through October 20th.
(Pick up will be Monday the 23rd)
The Renaissance Court Gallery is on the Randolph Street side of the Cultural Center at Michigan Avenue across from the north end of Millennium Park.
It is an easy walk from the Art Institute if you are coming into town.
I believe hours there are from 9:00AM until early evening----or at least 4:30+

Our reception is Thursday, October 5th from 4:00 to 6:30 PM.

Exhibit- Collective Muse, Aurora Public Art Commission

A few highlights from last night reception at Aurora's Public Art Commission Gallery Space with the Midwest Collage Society .

Aurora – The Aurora Public Art Commission and the Midwest Collage Society are proud to present The Collective Muse, an exhibit featuring the work of 31 collage artists.

The Midwest Collage Society, a regional affiliate of the National Collage Society founded in 2003, promotes collage as fine art, exhibiting three or more times per year at galleries across the Chicago metropolitan area.

The Midwest Collage Society boasts more than 60 members from Chicagoland and northwest Indiana, and includes both formally trained graduates and the self-taught. Styles range from traditional collage to mixed media and assemblage.  Artists use paper, paint, wood, fiber, metal, found objects, photographs and more.  The collective works of its members include figurative, representational and abstract art.

“When a group of artists with a common interest interact, nurture, support and educate one another, you’ll find ‘The Collective Muse,’” according to the artists’ statement. “Collage is so much more than paper and paste. Collage artists reuse and repurpose items often considered expendable. A cast-off item can provide the inspiration and focal point for award-winning artwork.”

Artists who will be exhibiting work include Nancy Castner, Nancy Staszak, June Fuerstenhaefer, Elaine Rath, Cherie Denton, Barb Boland, Mary Yezek, Pat Pope,  LuEllen Joy Giera, Melinda VanDril-Beer, Turkan Ildekmirci, Joan Lucht, Marge Boyd, Jerri Reimann, Tania Blanco, Margi Hafer, Donna Johnston, Maureen Gasek, Cindy Hughes, Gale C. Vance, Kathy Schoenauer, Dee De Schneider, Laura Lein-Svencner, Fabra DiPaolo, Margaret Swedzikowski, Rose Kostan-Schwartz, Meg Guttman, Teresa Cash, Karen Sako, Susan Sharp and Mary Alice DeRose.

Photo's from March 1st meeting

This is our packet that was handed out after we where able to experiment with the marbling technique.

Books and handmade books, what great possiblities with paper.
1. Put down a layer of shaving cream about a good 2" the size of your paper. Use the shaving cream from the dollar store. Works best.

Spread out the Shaving crean in a nice even palette to work off of.

You can use food coloring as you pigment or fluid acrylics too.

Regular copy paper, cut up mat board to spread shaving cream, popsicle stick to swirl the color with.

Small drop of food color is all that is needed.

Angela is swirling the food coloring around.
Doesn't this look fun? you can make some great designs.

Cool whip bowl is to scrap off the extra shaving cream when you make a marble print. There will be extra shaving cream on there so scrap it off with the mat board and save it in the bowl. Later you can reuse that.

This is Barb B's piece and it turned out great.

Tania our MCS President is have a great time spreading the palette surface flat to give it a try again.

Eve and Connie are sharing their palettes and turning out some great Marble papers.

Here is Barb B. Creating that great piece of paper.

Marble papers drying on the floor waiting to be turned in to a small book later in the workshop.
