February Meeting and more~


February 4th   Work Day  9 a.m.- 2:30 p.m.
Work Day (no presenter) Bring whatever you want work on and visit with other Midwest Collage Society members. Bring your lunch. We need a volunteer to pick up water and some snacks as our chair, Mo, will be out of town.

March 4th  12-2:30 p.m.
Tania Blanco offers “Mixed Media Madness” with a group paper altering project.  There will also be a “Brown Bag Challenge” to get your creative juices flowing and inspire you to think outside of the “Bag.” Bring plastic table cloth, scissors, glue, bottles of inexpensive craft acrylic paint, foam brush and addition brush, stamps and ink pad. scraps of paper to share and a hair dryer (to help dry paint).

April 8th   12-2:30 p.m.Robin Liefeld is a writer and self-taught mixed media artist who creates whimsical, childlike characters with vibrant colors and lots of dimension. Her colorful works of art often encourage you to stand in your truth and to be brave in the face of challenges. She wants her paintings to connect to the inner child and uplift, and lighten the soul. She will talk about her writings and art and how she uses social media to promote her art, her journaling workshop, and her mission. Check her web site at http://www.robinliefeld.com

May 6th   12-2:30 p.m.Kath Schonauer will present a “Frottage” workshop:  Frottage is the printing technique or process of taking a rubbing from an uneven surface to form the basis of a work of art. 

June 3rd  12-2:30 p.m.Margi Hafer will demonstrate various acrylic pouring techniques and creating acrylic “skins” for collage.

July NO MEETING
August 5th   9 a.m.-2:30 p.m.Denise Laurin Donatelle will present a workshop on hand made Japanese paper scrolls.

September NO MEETINGMCS Collage Retreat September 19-23 at Camp Alexander MAC

October 7th  12- 2:30 p.m. Sandra Bacon will present a Workshop/Demonstration on GOLDEN ACRYLIC PRODUCTS There will be free samples and lots of new ideas she’ll share.

November 4th  12-2:30 p.m.Andrea Fox will present  a workshop on creating a “Flutter Book”.

December 2nd   12-2:30 p.m.MCS Annual Christmas Party




FALL RETREAT
SAVE THE DATE: Annual Fall Retreat at CAMP MACK will take place September 19-23 2018.  FIVE days of creating with abandon.  We hope you will consider dedicating the time this year to make good friends, learn a new collage or mixed media technique, be inspired by the beautiful local nature.  Please encourage a friend that is not necessarily a MCS member to attend.  We need to have 25 participants to make this still affordable.  Last year we had a great group which included someone from Poland, and even a poet joined us.  We encourage any creative to join the fun.  This year's fee will be $265. for 4 nights lodging and 11 meals.    REGISTRATION packets will be available at each meeting starting in MARCH.  If unable to attend meetings, please e-mail Tania Blanco.

MCS EXHIBITS

Our next show is The Next Chapter at the Downers Grove Public Library in April.
People will probably be able to submit two large or three smaller pieces of work. Drop off is Saturday March 31st 10:00 -11:00 am. Pick up is Saturday May 5th,10:00 -11:00 am.
Jocelyne Roy is going to take charge of this one and will be point person.

We also have a mid-May through June exhibit at the Norris Cultural Center in St. Charles. Theme TBA. We will partner with The Sister Project that Margi Hafer is coordinating honoring her sister, Donna Johnston. These works are unfinished pieces by Donna, finished by friends and members of the MCS. Margi will be sending a detailed e-mail reminder to people who have offered to finish Donna's paintings.There will be an exhibit of the finished pieces at the Norris Gallery in May-June. She will need photos of the finished work and short artist statements byApril 1st so she can work on the book. Thank you to all of you who are participating in this project.

Thank you to MCS members who donated art to the Interfaith Food Pantry silent auction  

With the help of our members who donated art, they were able to raise $2,172 to support those who struggle to put food on their tables. 

MEMBERS
Treasurer needed!
Dale Lorens, our treasurer for many years, will be moving. Please consider filling this important board position. It's pretty basic and not very time consuming. All the bank statements are online so there isn't really much paperwork to manage. 
Responsibilities:
1.  Deposit checks to Chase Bank--Membership (mostly in April/May/June) and Retreat (May-September). If there aren't too many checks, it is easy to deposit electronically with smart phone, otherwise take to any Chase branch or drop in night deposit at any branch.
2.  Write/mail checks for items such as retreat venue, presenters who do monthly demos, awards to winners of judged shows 1-2/year), reimburse members for expenses such as ribbons, refreshments, etc. 
Dale is willing to answer questions for anyone interested.
