Lots of important information in this newsflash, so please read carefully!
1. Freeport Art Museum exhibit registration and drop-off
You should have received an e-mail from Exhibit Co-Chair Barb Boland with registration details for our upcoming exhibit at Freeport Art Museum. If you did NOT receive that information, please e-mail Barb at barbidoodle@comcast.net and she will re-send it to you.
Since Freeport is so far away, we will be dropping our work off at one of several members' homes and the same members will be driving the work to the museum. Details will follow just as soon as we can firm them up, but we will likely have drop off locations in Darien, LaGrange and Naperville during the week of August 6-10. Additionally, you may arrange with us to drop off work during our August meeting on Sunday, August 5. Please read the registration details about wrapping your work to protect it for the journey to Freeport. At the completion of the exhibit in November, we will again arrange for several members to pick up the work and bring it back to the west suburban area.
2. Vogt Visual Arts exhibit opportunity (not an official MCS exhibit)
Just a reminder about the exhibit opportunity for collage and textile works at the Vogt Visual Arts Center in Tinley Park. They have room for up to 150 pieces, including large work, and they also have a case for very small pieces. Show runs for the entire month of August, and work must be dropped off between July 23 and 27. Gallery commission is 30% on sold works, but there is no hanging or jury fee. You MUST call curator Julie Dekker at 708-309-4371 to arrange for drop off, and she is very accomodating about drop off times (she lives nearby). All submitted work should be properly labeled with title, media, price, whether for sale or NFS as well as your name and phone number. Again, while this is not an official MCS exhibit, many MCS members are participating and it will be a good opportunity to get collage work out there as well as more publicity for MCS.
3. Beverly Arts Center Pickup
Pickup dates and times for our work at Beverly Arts Center are Sunday, July 29 from 1-6 pm and Monday, July 30, from 9 am to 9 pm. We suggest calling ahead just to confirm that they will be open on their posted hours (summer hours are subject to change). Their number is 773-445-3838.
4. August meeting
Our August meeting will be an all-day workday on Sunday, August 5, from 9:30 AM - 3 PM at the Darien Municipal Center, 1710 Plainfield Rd., Darien. Bring a project or two to work on, your art materials and a plastic tablecover, along with lunch and a beverage. You may also bring a dish to share with others. (Remember, we are no longer making coffee for meetings, so bring your own if you need it!) Please feel free to bring ephemera or otther art materials for our swap table, just make sure to take it home again if no one chooses to adopt it.
5. Member news
If you have news about classes you're teaching, exhibits you're in, calls for art or other art-related good news, please send it to me and I'll incorporate it into a future newsflash. We send them out once or twice a month.
